8th Grade Activities & Promotion Requirements


Standley Middle school provides several 8thgrade events to celebrate the successful completion of middle school for ourstudents. These activities include, butmay not be limited to, 8th grade activity, and the Promotionceremony. The entire Standley staffhopes all eighth grade students will qualify for participation in allactivities. What a wonderful way to endstudents’ middle school years and provide encouragement and motivation for asuccessful high school career and beyond!

However, participating in eighth gradeactivities is considered a privilege. Students must demonstrate they have had asuccessful educational experience at Standley Middle School, based on apositive academic and citizenship record. Academic and Citizenship information will be evaluated from the progressreport during the second semester at the 12 week grading period ending on April 29, 2016. Listed below are criteria usedto identify students who may be disqualified for some or all of our middleschool culminating events:

♦ Students who receive 2 or more F's in any classes during second semester at the 12 week grading period ending April 29, 2016 may be excluded from all promotion activities.

♦ Students must have a minimum of a 2.0GPA (both academic and citizenship) in order to participate in promotionactivities.

Four or more referrals(including bus referrals/Dress Code Violations/attendance/etc.) in one semesterare considered excessive and will be cause for disqualification. Students and parents will be alertedregarding behavioral concerns when referrals are written and handled by anadministrator or counselor.

Any out-of-school suspensionfor a full day or more is a severe consequence at Standley and is cause fordisqualification.

Any student not meeting the criteria toparticipate in eighth grade activities or the promotion ceremony will be disqualified and will receive a final notification by May 13, 2016. Students may file an appeal which will bereviewed and all decisions made will be final. The appeal must be 100% complete and submitted by May 26, 2016.
